Shopes
I think one of the more easier things to do is make each plaer host a shop, it is alot more efficent that "WTS hammer 10-15 for 200 gold" or something like that, if you make each player the ability to make hier own shop "where they walk, they have a shop, and set prices, for items they have, and other people buy them" it would be nice, a idea i got from the game "MU online" "www.muonline.com" well, making personal shopes would help alot, just a thought

It's nice and all, but so many other games have it. Which is probably the reason that they did not make it like this, the other downside to this is the game being full of AFKers having a shop open. Yet again, it's a good idea which i would certainly vote for.

but now that i think about it, you are correct. there would be millions of AFK and the game would prolly lag alot in towns.

That would severely overload districts full of AFKers as Wind said. It would be like 1 buyer per 99 shops

One answer to having shops around but not all the AFKs in town is this..
Have a specific bazaar zone (like EQ) where these districts are the only areas you can set up shops in the game. This way if you dont want to see the spam and crap you just dont go there. It works great.
Another idea is having a 2nd district at your Guild Hall?I know it may sound funny but it would be interesting. What if you have a universal search system where you could search for items for sale through a search window and be able to purchase them without even going there?Or if its too hard to implement, just have it warp you to that Guild Halls 2nd district to purchase from placed shop.It would be even more interesting if Guild Leaders could put a small tax for their members to sale there, for say..to cover the cost of Underworld hunts,a new island/sigil,money for Guild Leader to better equip his officers/loyal members etc etc etc..just some ideas

what they could do is put a cap on the amount of player characters setting up shops in a particular district and boot them if they are AFK for a set amount of time
also set up some kind of classified section in the game where people could advertise their wares and people could buy them right away all of your info is stored on the net anyway so when an item sells it can just be taken out of your inventory and replaced with what it sold for weather that be an item or gold and this could be done even if you're offline

I don't think shops are a good idea, because of the AFKers and lag as mentioned above, but there definately needs to be some solution implemented to help sellers hook up with buyers. For example i recently found a gold flame artifact that was +11 en (req 5 fire), Quick recharge for curses (%40), and Health +30. I'm positive that there is some E/N or N/E out there who could have really used this focus, but I'll be damned if I can find him/her. I ended up selling it to the npc for 150g. I don't think there needs to be a full-blown auction house like WoW, but even an in game bulletin board of some type would help the trade spam drastically.
